Dolores Park's Closure Called a False Alarm

Park could still close but officials are not sure when, for how long or exactly what parts

Word of Dolores Park closing for more than a year hit the Internet world hard and had us worried about the future of Brolores Park.

But mayoral hopeful and Supervisor Bevan Dufty is holding a community meeting with Recreation and Park officials to calm the nerves of hipsters everywhere by assuring the closure declaration was premature.

The popular park is scheduled to undergo a 16-month face lift starting next December. Initial reports were the park would be closed for the entire procedure but then officials reacted to public outcry by saying they were open to the possibility of closing the park in phases.

Officials will meet with concerned residents Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in Dolores Park Church at 455 Dolores St. to assure them nothing has been decided about closing the park.

In fact officials are not sure exactly how much access people will have to the park during construction. They say it is still too early to tell.
