A construction boom in Silicon Valley coupled with El Niño storms has roofing companies begging for help.
The shortage means homeowners waiting for a new roof could be waiting weeks, or even months.
In San Jose, finding good roofers has reached critical mass.
"We need roofers. We need construction workers in general, but we need roofers big time," said Josue Garcia, CEO of the Building and Trades Council in the South Bay.
The Building and Trades Council said many roofers left the industry when the economy tanked. Garcia said the demand for roofers is something he sees all the time from companies on big projects and builders with residential jobs.
"It's a big storm. The construction industry is booming in Santa Clara county," Garcia said. "And El Niño is forcing companies to do their roofs."
That's what happened to Tammy Ramsey's home, which has a leak in the garage. Ramsey thinks she is one of the lucky customers because her roofer was not supposed to provide service for weeks.

"The company I'm going with today wasn't supposed to be out here until the end of the month," Ramsey said. The company fixed Ramsey's roof on Monday.
