Driver Fatally Strikes Pedestrian in San Jose: Police

San Jose police began investigating a fatal pedestrian accident on Wednesday morning, hours after two people were killed in an unrelated double homicide.

Sgt. Heather Randol said a driver struck a person, later described by a restaurant worker as "an older man," about 12:30 a.m. at Tully Road and Lanai Avenue near a Jack in the Box. The car was traveling east on Tully, as the man was crossing north across the same street, Randol said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver remained there, cooperating with police. Drugs and alcohol were not suspected, Randol said.

The older man's death follows on the heels of a double homicide reported about 9 p.m. Tuesday, where two men were killed in the 100 block of Rancho Drive, near the El Rancho Steakhouse. When officers arrived on scene they found two men inside the residence who both had been shot at least once. A woman was also shot and taken to the hospital. No one was arrested.

The homicides were San Jose's 27th and 28th homicides this year.
