A driver in a pickup truck struck a horse running in lanes on westbound Kirker Pass Road near Concord Pavilion early Friday.
The impact of the collision pinned the driver in his truck and the jaws of life had to be used to get him out.
Authorities had to put the horse down and the driver was transported to John Muir Medical Center and is in critical condition.
The Westbound side of Kirker Pass is completely shut down near Myrtle as the scene is processed.
