Driver Rescued After Vehicle Goes Down Embankment in Los Gatos, Starts Fire

A driver suffered moderate injuries after a vehicle went over a 100-foot embankment Friday afternoon on Shannon Road at Santa Rosa Drive in Los Gatos.

Firefighters from the Santa Clara County Fire Department, alerted before 4:30 p.m. by a Midpeninsula Regional Open Space employee, found that a fire had started in the vehicle and had spread to vegetation.

The driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, was located and taken to the roadway before being taken to the hospital.

The fire threatened one structure in the area but was quickly contained and personnel remained at the scene to fully extinguish and clean up the area.

The cause of the accident is undetermined.
