A preliminary 2.9 magnitude earthquake struck Thursday morning in the mountains between Livermore and Milpitas, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The quake hit at 5:35 a.m. and was centered about 11 miles south-southeast of Livermore and about 13 miles north-northeast of San Jose's Alum Rock neighborhood, the USGS said.
No other information was immediately available.
