2.7 magnitude earthquake shakes in East Bay

A preliminary 2.7 magnitude earthquake struck Thursday morning near Hayward, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quake, centered about 2 miles southeast of Hayward, hit at 5:03 a.m., the USGS said.

Two other small earthquakes also hit near Hayward later in the afternoon.

The USGS reports a 3.4 magnitude quake hit at 11:52 a.m., with a 3.2 magnitude quake striking two minutes later. Both were centered about 2 miles southeast of Hayward and roughly 3.5 miles south-southeast of Castro Valley, the USGS said.
