Preliminary 3.0 magnitude quake rattles the South Bay

A preliminary 3.0 magnitude earthquake struck near Gilroy Tuesday night, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quake hit at 9:39 p.m. and was centered 4.7 miles northeast of Gilroy and 9.7 miles east-southeast or Morgan Hill, the USGS said.
