A preliminary 2.9 magnitude earthquake struck Tuesday morning just south of Gilroy, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The quake, centered about 2.3 miles west-southwest of San Juan Bautista, hit at 5:15 a.m., the USGS said.
Some residents in Gilroy reported feeling the temblor, which had a depth of about 3.7 miles, the USGS reported.
