A preliminary 3.9 magnitude earthquake struck near Morgan Hill late Wednesday night, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The quake hit at 11:16 p.m. about 6 miles northeast of Morgan Hill, the USGS said.
Several residents of the small south Santa Clara County city described the temblor as a strong jolt.
