A woman and two children were found dead inside an apartment in Fremont Monday, police said.

The incident was reported at the 40000 block of Inglewood Common around 1 p.m. when officers responded to a call for help inside the apartment.

“Any kind of case like this, where you have young individuals involved, it's traumatic for everybody. For the officers too, because many of the officers that responded today are parents themselves and so it does have an impact,” said Lt. Paul McCormick of the Fremont Police Department.

Police said Tuesday that they believe the woman killed her kids, a 1-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl, before killing herself.

A woman and two children were found dead inside an apartment in Fremont Monday, police said.

Officers didn't reveal the identity of the victims, but Frank Garcia said the woman is his cousin Evelyn Garcia.

He said they're from Guatemala and moved into the Inglewood Common apartments with their father about four months ago.

“She was like a sister to me,” said Frank.

He and his family were outside the apartment for hours waiting for answers.

Also in disbelief are neighbors who say they saw the woman and children playing in the yard earlier Monday.

“We saw many police cars just came here in the parking lot running toward the apartment,” said neighbor Janardin Gajera.

Police did not reveal the cause of the death, but said a knife was found at the scene.

“We are keeping all of our options open as the investigation proceeds. We will release information as it becomes available once it's appropriate,” said Lt. Paul McCormick of the Fremont Police Department.
