East Palo Alto Shooting Victim Dies

Deadly Shooting In East Palo Alto Wednesday Night

East Palo Alto on Thursday were trying to find the person who shot and killed a 31-year-old man in front of his family's home.

Shot spotter technology picked up nine gunshots at 11:44 p.m. Wednesday night, triangulating the location to the 2500 block on Gloria Way. When police arrived, they found Scedrick Tippins Jr. lying in the driveway, suffering from several gunshot wounds.

Sgt. Dave Carson was one of the first officers on the scene.

"All we heard was people were yelling someone's been shot.  That was about it.  We didn't hear anything about this person did it.  They were driving this type of vehicle.  They went this way.  Even though those questions were asked, they were hysterical."

Tippins Jr. died about 30 minutes after police arrived at Stanford hospital.

Tippins Jr. is the third homicide victim this year in East Palo Alto. Last year, there were eight homicides.

Investigators are interviewing family and other witnesses at the police station to get a description, if not the identity of the shooter.

A relative of Tippins Jr. did not want to be interviewed by NBC Bay Area, saying only this: "Talking ends you up dead."

Police said they knew Tippins jr. from taking with him during neighborhood patrols.  They say he was nice and friendly.

But when asked if police were surprised this happened to him, Carson said: "Nothing surprises me in this town anymore."

Anyone with information about the shooting should call  East Palo Alto police at (650) 321-1112.
