East San Jose Apartment Fire Displaces 11 People

Firefighters responded to two separate two-alarm fires that started within minutes of each other in San Jose Wednesday morning, a fire captain said.

Fire crews responded to a fire in the 5500 block of Judith Street at about 12:55 a.m., fire Capt. Reggie Williams said.

The two-alarm fire on the second floor unit of an apartment building was under control by about 1:35 a.m., he said.

Two people were treated and released for smoke inhalation, Williams said.

The American Red Cross was called to assist six adults and five children displaced by the blaze, he said.

Fire crews also responded to another fire in the 3400 block of Grossmont Drive around 12:55 a.m., according to Williams.

The two-alarm fire in the garage of a single-family home was under control shortly after 1:30 a.m., he said.

No injuries were reported in the second fire, Williams said.

The causes of both fires are under investigation.
