El Sobrante Brush Fire Contained: Fire Officials

A brush fire in El Sobrante has been fully contained, according to Contra Costa Fire Department officials.

The fire spread to 15 acres Saturday and had threatened at least two homes in the area, officials said.

The 2-alarm fire was reported at about 2 p.m. Saturday.

Homeowners described the terror of the fire.

"We're in shock," said Phil Palmer, whose home was threatened by the fire. "I was out there with the garden hose, and the flames had jumped 30 feet in front of me, 15 feet away. I was just overwhelmed. It looks like a moonscape. Our house is still here. We're still here. Our pets are still here, but I'm still kind of in shock."

Strike teams and three fire engines have been called in to the area of the brush fire located at 5645 Olinda Road for structural protection of homes on Amend and Valley View roads.

There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
