76-Year-Old Hiker Found Alive in Marin County

Search crews continue to canvass the area for a missing couple from Palo Alto

A 76-year-old man was found Tuesday after he went missing Monday while hiking in unincorporated Marin County, sheriff's officials said.

Robert Bennett was located and rescued late Tuesday night, according to a tweet at 11:26 p.m. by the sheriff's office.

Sheriff's officials did not say where Bennett had been found nor did they say what condition he was in other than he was alive. He was taken to a hospital, where he was with family.

Bennett was found by a pair of K-9 units, the Marin County Sheriff's Office said.

Bennett was last seen at 1:22 p.m. Monday as he was walking toward Valley Stone Trail Head. His vehicle was located Tuesday near the trailhead, according to sheriff's officials.

Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Brenton Schneider said deputies were able to get a description of Bennett's clothing from surveillance footage in the area.

Bennett was last seen wearing blue jeans, a gray flannel shirt and gray shoes.

A search continued Tuesday in Marin County for two others who have gone missing and were possibly hiking. A search began Saturday for 77-year-old Carol Kiparsky and her husband 72-year-old Ian Irwin, who were last seen Friday.

The couple was last seen at a rental house on Via de la Vista in the community of Inverness/Sea Haven.

Kiparsky is 5 feet, 2 inches tall, 115 pounds and has gray hair and blue eyes. Irwin is 6 feet, 1 inch tall, 175 pounds with blue eyes. Irwin is balding. He has some gray hair.

Deputies are do not know what kind of clothing either is wearing.
