Equipment Problem Prompts Major BART Delays

BART reported major delays across its platforms early Friday because of an equipment problems on the tracks.

The delays started at the Peninsula and San Francisco stations at the San Francisco International Airport, which affected the commutes in the Millbrae and East Bay directions.

According to the BART media line, there were reports of a flash about 4:45 a.m. at the Balboa Park station on the Peninsula caused by a piece of equipment on the track that malfunctioned and caused small debris fires.

Power was restored about 6 a.m., but single-tracking will remain in effect between Balboa Park and Daly City all day, a spokesman said.
