Five convicted murderers will gather on Alcatraz Island on Saturday to kick off a speaker series that examines life after prison.

The series will be accompanied by an exhibit based on the book "Life After Murder: Five Men In Search of Redemption" by author Nancy Mullane. The exhibit includes photos and other items.

The men -- Ed Ramirez, Don Cronk, Jesse Reed, Philip Seiler and Rich Rael -- were all convicted of murder in the 1980s and have since been granted parole. They will gather on Alcatraz at 1 p.m. Saturday for a special presentation with the author.

The event will serve as the start of a speaker series that will take place every Saturday through Nov. 17 on the island.

Speakers in the series will include Mullane and the five men, as well as people who have worked with men imprisoned for murder, such as Lt. Sam Robinson from San Quentin State Prison.

The exhibit is located in the former dining hall in the main cell house at Alcatraz. More information about the exhibit and speaker series is available at www.nps.gov/alca/planyourvisit/life-after-murder.htm or www.lifeaftermurder.com.

Tickets can be obtained from Alcatraz Cruises at (415) 981-7625 or www.alcatrazcruises.com.
