Facial Recognition Technology to Cut Down Lines at San Jose International Airport

International travel at San Jose International Airport is getting a high-tech twist meant to cut down on lines.

The airport is hoping a new facial recognition system can cut the lines at its international terminals. Travelers get photographed before departing and thanks to new software, biometric images are matched up with travelers when they return.

More travelers will know about it when airport and customs authorities make an official announcement Monday. The system will be especially crucial in the Bay Area because the high cost of living makes it hard to recruit workers to manage the lines.

NBC Bay Area's Robert Handa has more on the new technology SJC is using in the video report above.
