The family of a 20-year-old man fatally shot on a train at the West Oakland BART station is hoping police make an arrest in the case.
BART police last week released photos of the suspect, who investigators said used a handgun to shoot Carlos Misael Funez-Romero multiple times on Jan. 9. The shooting was on a San Francisco International Airport-bound train as it was approaching the West Oakland BART station, police said.
"It feels like someone cut off my arm," said Andres Funez, the victim's father. "He was my right arm."
Funez-Romero's parents said the Antioch man was on his way to their house in San Francisco for dinner when he was shot.
"He was supposed to come at about 8 p.m., but he never made it and never called," said Mayra Romero, the victim's mother.
The parents said they did not learn about Romero's death until last Thursday. BART police told them Funez-Romero and the suspect had bumped each other. The mother also said detectives told her the suspect pushed her son at the BART entrance and it appears they had an argument during the ride.
NBC Bay Area on Monday learned the images of the suspect police released on Friday were taken aboard a Tri Delta bus. BART police said Funez-Romero and the suspect rode the same bus to the Pittsburg BART station and had an interaction onboard.

BART said the interaction between the two carried over onto BART. Sources also said investigators are looking into the possibility the incident may have been gang related.
Funez-Romero moved to the United States from Honduras because they thought he would be safer. His family said Funez-Romero also has a 10-month-old daughter.
BART police describe the suspect as man in his late 20s to early 30s, who is about 6 feet 2 inches tall with a skinny build, broad shoulders and a scruffy face who was wearing a long green trench coat over a dark hooded sweatshirt with its hood up, dark pants, a dark backpack and was armed with a black semi-automatic handgun.
Investigators said they do not know what the motive was for the shooting and do not know what kind of a relationship the suspect and Funez-Romero had, if any.
