A crash on eastbound Interstate Highway 580 in Oakland early Thursday morning killed a woman and seriously injured a man, according to a California Highway Patrol spokesman.
The crash was reported at about 4:05 a.m. on the right side of eastbound Highway 580 near the 98th Avenue on-ramp, and the car caught fire after crashing, CHP spokesman Herman Baza said.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her name is not yet being released. The man was taken to a hospital and an update on his condition was not immediately released.
The two right lanes of the highway were shut down as a result of the emergency response, but reopened by shortly after 7:20 a.m., according to
the CHP.
In nearby Emeryville, three people died Thursday morning after an SUV reportedly slammed into a parked big-rig on Interstate 80.
