All lanes have reopened after a vehicle passenger died in a crash on northbound Interstate Highway 880 in Fremont Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision was reported at 9:42 a.m. when a black sedan driving on northbound Highway 880 at South Fremont Boulevard crashed into a green SUV, according to CHP Officer Manuel Leal.
The green SUV lost control, turned over multiple times and a passenger in the vehicle died at the scene.
The driver of the green SUV was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries, and the driver of the black sedan appears to be OK, Leal said.
Three lanes of the highway were closed and traffic was backed up on the highway as of late this morning, but all lanes were reopened at 12:31 p.m.
No information was immediately available from the CHP about why the collision happened.
