One Dead in Head-On Crash in Rural South San Jose

San Jose police responded Wednesday to a fatal head-on crash on McKean Road south of Bailey Avenue, near the Cinnabar Hills Golf Club, police said.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said, and the other driver had to be extricated from his vehicle, according to the San Jose Fire Department.

The second driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.

The crash occurred just after 2 p.m. when for unknown reasons a Toyota Corrolla traveling northbound on McKean crossed the center line and collided with a BMW, police said.

McKean Road, a two-lane road in a rural area of San Jose, was closed in both directions for hours as the crash scene was investigated, police spokesman Sgt. Enrique Garcia said. Drugs or alcohol were not believed to be factors in the crash.

The victim's name was not released Wednesday, police said.

It was San Jose's 32nd fatal collision and 34th victim of 2018, Garcia said.

Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact Detective Leanne Alfonzo of the San Jose Police Department's Traffic Investigations Unit at 408-277-4654.
