A Pleasanton officer fatally shot a man early Sunday morning, police said.
According to a department statement, officers responded to a burglary report at auto dealer Specialty Sales Classics just after 2 a.m. Upon arriving at 4321 1st St., police noticed a Caucasian man acting "agitated and aggressive" in front of the business.
Instead of obeying officers' commands, the man ran back into the business and exited via a rear broken window, police said. An officer who was stationed at the back of Specialty Sales Classics chased the man.
Police said the officer fired his pistol during an altercation with the suspect. The man was transported to Eden Medical Center where he died.
The officer, who remains unidentified, was treated for minor injuries at ValleyCare Medical Center, police said. He has since been released.
An investigation is ongoing and the Alameda County Coroner’s Office will assist with identifying the man, police said.
