The man who was killed in an early Friday morning fatality in Daly City was the driver of a black SUV, whom the California Highway Patrol said crashed his vehicle, jumped out and tried to flee the scene before he was struck.
CHP officers told NBC Bay Area they found a small caliber rifle and a BB gun inside of his sports utility vehicle. A CHP officer told Bay City News that the weapons appeared to have been stolen.
CHP confirmed to NBC Bay Area that the SUV itself was an unreported stolen vehicle out of Millbrae.
A car that struck him did not initially stop at the scene, but the CHP believes the driver did not know that a person was hit and authorities will not be pressing charges, the officer said.
Officers still don't know if the SUV driver was struck by one, or several, cars.
The fatality and subsequent multiple vehicle collisions caused all southbound lanes and two northbound lanes of Interstate Highway 280 in Daly City to be blocked early Friday morning and caused a traffic nightmare for that part of San Mateo County and anyone commuting in that area to and from San Francisco.
