Father-and-Son Haunted House in San Jose Victimized by Thieves

A father and son duo who took their haunted house from their private home to an elaborate professional level expanse in a mall parking lot have been victimized by thieves, NBC Bay Area has learned.

Early Wednesday morning, thieves broke into Abe and Mike Barrera's annual Halloween setup, damaged one of the sets and stole sound equipment and air compressors, the Barreras said.

"The team we have here is a family, so we're picking up the pieces, we're repairing things," Mike Barrera said, "We're trying to get replacement stuff in here, so if you come in, it's as if it never happened."

Indeed, the show will go on, they say, even after losing $3,000 worth of gear.

The Bernal Scream haunted house is open through Halloween night, and as always, the Barreras invite anyone to come enjoy their display for free.
