Fire Claims 15 Vehicles at Salvage Parts Business

Fifteen salvage vehicles burned Saturday night at a San Jose auto dismantling business, and firefighters took about 45 minutes to have it under control, a San Jose fire captain said.

The fire was reported at 5:33 p.m. at the Pick-n-Pull lot at 1065 Commercial St., just north of the Berryessa Road crossing over U.S Highway 101.

San Jose Fire Capt. Mitch Matlow said the fire was first reported claiming two vehicles, but spread to eventually claim 15. Twenty-four firefighters, plus several San Jose Police Department officers, responded to fight the fire and handle traffic control.

No one was injured, Matlow said, and the cause of the fire was unknown as of Saturday night. Fire crews were still mopping up at 6:30 p.m.
