Fire Crews Contain Three-Alarm Grass Fire in Benicia

The Benicia Fire Department battled a three-alarm grass fire off Interstate 780 Thursday evening.

Flames broke out around 6:45 p.m. and burned between Glen Cove Road and Benicia State Park before they were contained with the assiatance of the Vallejo Fire Department and the Fairfield Fire Department.

Though homes were threatened, there were no reports of damages to structures or injuries, fire officials said.

All lanes of I-780 were temporarily shut down. One lane in each direction reopened just after 9 p.m. as fire crews contained the flames.

Firefighters were expected to remain on the scene throughout the night to monitor hot spots.

No additional information was immediately available.
