Fire Crews Investigating Three South Bay Car Fires, Two Possible Arson

Fire crews in the South Bay are investigating three separate car fires early Tuesday morning.

Two of the fires happened overnight near Del Mar High School in West San Jose. They started just blocks apart and within 40 minutes of each other.

The first car fire happened Monday at 11:41 p.m. at Bascom Avenue in San Jose. About 40 minutes later, a similar fire happened at Leigh Avenue and Stokes Street in San Jose.

Both those fires are being investigated as arson.

Then, just over an hour later around 1: 40 a.m. Tuesday, San Jose firefighters responded to a third vehicle fire, but about 12 miles away in East San Jose. It was at the Silver Creek Linear Park by Yerba Buena Road and Silver Creek Valley Road.

An SUV was fully engulfed in flames, and fire crews hosed it down. But after firefighters put out the flames, there was just a skeleton of the vehicle with the metal frames and the wires exposed.

That fire is not being investigated as arson. Police are also investigating the fires.

The San Francisco Fire Department said these fires have no link to the string of possible vehicle arson fires last week in the Castro District.
