A residential structure fire Friday evening in Livermore displaced a family and killed a cat, according to fire officials.
Firefighters with the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department responded around 5:40 p.m. to a report of a fire on Sandra Way and located a fire on the outside of a residence that had spread to the inside of the home, fire officials said.
Crews were able to extinguish the exterior fire and prevent it from spreading to a nearby residence.
The fire destroyed 50 percent of the residence and the rest of the home sustained significant smoke damage, according to fire officials.
One person was home at the time of the fire, and he was able to exit the residence with the family dog after initially trying to extinguish the blaze. A cat was killed in the fire, fire officials said.
The family of three that lived in the home was displaced and made arrangements to stay in a hotel, firefighters said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
