Firefighters Knock Down Brush Fire in North San Jose

Fire crews knocked down a two-alarm brush fire in North San Jose on Thursday, according to the San Jose Fire Department.

The 5-acre blaze at 4353 N. First St. temporarily shut down at least one lane of westbound Highway 237, officials said.

About 60 firefighters initially responded to the scene, and crews from Santa Clara and Sunnyvale responded to a call for mutual aid, officials said.

A handful of homeless people in the area were evacuated, but no injuries were reported, fire officials said.
