A single-story San Jose home was left uninhabitable when its roof collapsed in a two-alarm fire Wednesday afternoon, a fire captain said.
It took over an hour for firefighters to get the blaze under control after it started in a shed in the 2000 block of Flintcrest Drive at about 4:20 p.m., according to the fire department.
Firefighters responded at 4:23 p.m. to reports of a grass fire, but when they arrived they found the shed and fence burning and the fire spreading to the home, fire Capt. Christopher Salcido said
Once the house caught fire, firefighters called for a second alarm response.
Strong winds caused concern the flames could spread to other nearby homes, and firefighters were careful to make sure embers didn't blow to any other structures or trees, Salcido said.
They controlled the fire by about 5:30 p.m., but not before the single-family home's roof partially collapsed in the back of the house. There was fire and smoke damage throughout the attic and roof, Salcido said.
The home was left uninhabitable and the American Red Cross is responding to assist displaced residents. Salcido did not immediately know how many residents lived in the home.

No one was injured in the fire. An arson investigator is responding to determine its cause, Salcido said.
