High School Football Player Airlifted After Suffering ‘Tramatic' Injury During Game in East Bay

A football player was airlifted after suffering a "traumatic" injury during a game between Freedom and Antioch high schools on Friday night in Oakley, according to the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District.

The athlete was injured during the game, fire officials said.

Emergency crews said the player - who wasn't identified - suffered a traumatic injury during the game that was played at Freedom High in Oakley at 1050 Neroly Road.

Emergency crews transported the player from the football field to an adjacent soccer field, where a REACH medical helicopter transported him to a hospital.

The severity of the player's injuries wasn't provided by fire officials. Hospital officials at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek declined to give an update on the player's condition.
