Jewelry Store Owner's Daughter Grabs Gun, Chases 4 Robbery Suspects in San Jose

Four suspects wearing hoodies robbed a jewelry store in San Jose, but the owner caught the heist on video – even the part where her daughter grabbed a handgun and chased after them on the sidewalk.

Neither Luciana Martinez, owner of Martinez Jewelry store on Story Road, nor her daughter were injured during the robbery, reported about 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Martinez told NBC affiliate Telemundo 48 that when she saw the young men, she first went to help them, thinking they were customers. Then, she saw the dark hoods over their heads and realized something was wrong.

The men, she said, demanded money and one was armed with a handgun.

But so was her daughter, who was hiding in the bathroom, dialing police. But she didn’t stay there long. She is seen on the surveillance video walking outside the store – a gun in her hand – walking defiantly on the sidewalk to shoo the men away.

Martinez said she fired one round at the getaway car.

San Jose Police Office Christian Camarillo told NBC Bay Area store owners have the right to protect their businesses, but they hope those owners use an abundance of caution when handling a gun.

Camarillo said there is no better description of the suspects, only that they were disguised, and also wearing masks. They still got away with jewelry and cash. They were seen leaving in a dark colored car, authorities said.
