The Force is strong with these two.
On Saturday night, Star Wars creator George Lucas married investment manager and TV news contributor Mellody Hobson, PEOPLE confirmed with an article Monday morning.
The newlyweds exchanged vows at Lucas’s Skywalker Ranch in Marin, California. Lucas, 69, and Hobson, 44, met at a business conference in 2006, which Hobson credited with igniting their unlikely courtship in an interview with Oprah in 2012. Hobson commented, "How else would a financial person and a movie person ever be at the same place at the same time?"
Hobson is a well-established businesswoman whose most notable accomplishments include serving as a contributor and analyst on finance and the economy with CBS News as well as chairing of the board of DreamWorks Animation. The couple announced their engagement in January.
Journalist and ordained minister Bill Moyers officiated the ceremony, according to a tweet from director Ron Howard, who attended the wedding. Howard tweeted, “George Lucas Melody Hobson wedding was joy to behold Bill Moyers service was beautiful, nothing short of profound. Congrats Mr&Mrs Lucas”

In addition to Moyers and Howard, many other well-known guests attended the wedding, including directors Francis Ford Coppola and Steven Spielberg, as well as Arianna Huffington. Spielberg’s toast of the groom was quoted by the Huffington Post: “the Force finally had a name: Mellody.”
This will be Hobson’s first marriage and Lucas’s second. The Star Wars director’s marriage to film editor Marcia Lou Griffin ended in divorce in 1983.
Perhaps Lucas’s new marriage will carry out Anakin Skywalker’s Jedi wisdom from Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones. “Compassion,” Anakin said, “which I would define as unconditional love, is essential to a Jedi's life. So you might say, that we are encouraged to love.”
Outside of enjoying love and the newlywed life, Lucas will be busy in the coming weeks with backing his $700 million proposal to feature his private collection of Americana and Hollywood art in a new museum at San Francisco’s Presidio. San Francisco mayor Ed Lee is sold on the proposal since meeting with Lucas after a private meeting several weeks ago.
