Gilroy Police Investigate Woman's ‘Suspicious' Death at Residence

Gilroy police were investigating a woman's death at a residence Thursday afternoon, and they are calling it suspicious.

Police responded to a home in the 800 block of Sorrento Drive after receiving a call about a reckless driver in the neighborhood. They made contact with a woman outside the home then shortly after found another woman unresponsive inside the home with what they suspected was a gunshot wound, police said.

A firearm was recovered at the scene, police said.

Lifesaving efforts were performed on the victim by first responders, but they were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they received a call about 2:15 p.m. from a woman saying her adult daughter was driving recklessly through the neighborhood. She later advised police that her daughter had returned to the home.

When officers arrived, a woman outside the house told them her mother had shot herself, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released as it becomes available, police said.
