Mother Assaulted, Children Possibly Hit With Pepper Spray in San Jose

Two small children were possibly hit with pepper spray when their mother was attacked and sprayed by a woman she knew outside a 7-Eleven in San Jose Sunday night, according to police.

The incident happened around 11 p.m. along the 5100 block of Monterey Road, police said.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police learned that the mother drove to the 7-Eleven with her children. When the mother hopped out of her car, she was "physically assaulted" by another woman, according to police.

During the altercation, the suspect pepper-sprayed the mother, police said. Some of the spray may have indirectly hit the children as they sat in the car.

The mother and her children were checked out at the scene. They did not need any further medical attention, according to police.

The suspect ditched the scene before police arrived. She has not been apprehended, police said.

The relationship between the suspect and the victim was not immediately clear, but police said they know each other.
