Golden Gate Bridge Tolls Rise by 25 Cents

Driving across San Francisco's most iconic landmark is about to get pricier - by a quarter.

Starting on Wednesday, the toll for FasTrak users across the Golden Gate Bridge will rise from $6 to $6.25. The toll for pay-by-license-plate motorists increases from $7 to $7.25. And carpoolers will pay $4.25 instead of $4.

For commercial drivers, the toll for a seven-axle truck goes up from $42 to $49.

Car tolls will continue to rise each year. Prices will increase by another quarter on July 1, 2016, and by the same amount on July 1, 2017, and July 1, 2018.

The Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District said that this is part of a multi-year toll increase program approved by the Board of Directors in February 2014 and will help to reduce a five year budget shortfall.
