It's endorsement season in San Francisco's mayoral race and two big names weighed in on the race.
Former Vice President and Current TV co-founder, Al Gore, threw his weight behind former supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier while the name Newsom was attached to Joanna Rees.
"I’ve known Michela for a long time," Gore said in press release from Alioto-Pier’s campaign. "She is an innovative and creative policymaker, and I know she is the right choice to be the next mayor of San Francisco."
Alioto-Pier told the San Francisco Examiner she was thrilled to seek the endorsement of Gore, who knows the Bay Area well since he is on Apple's board and is an adviser to Google.
She said she has shaped her political career on Gore's work.
Fellow female mayoral hopeful, Rees, was endorsed by a Newsom but not the one who used to hold the job she wants.
Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom's wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, endorsed the venture capitalist.
"Joanna Rees is a self-made woman who came to our community as a working mom nearly 20 years ago, bootstrapped her way to the top of a male-dominated profession, created thousands of local jobs and helped transform our most underserved schools," Siebel Newsom said in a statement.
If elected, either woman would become the City's second female mayor.
