The Federal Trade Commission is launching a new TV ad campaign to clear up any confusion about how consumers should get their free annual credit reports.
The ads spoof a series of long-running commercials for a third party company claiming to offer free credit reports.
But the FTC said that third party company is not the officially authorized provider.
The commission said consumers could be charged hidden fees or fees for additional services to access their credit reports.
The FTC said the only government-authorized site offering truly free credit reports is AnnualCreditReport.com.
