San Francisco Police Investigate Four Fires in John McLaren Park

Four fires spanning three acres sparked Wednesday at John McLaren Park, and caught the attention of the San Francisco Police Department.

Just before 12 p.m., officials on Twitter asked people to avoid that part of the city that is on the border of the city's Excelsior District and Visitacion Valley neighborhoods

Footage from the scene showed a thick plume of smoke billowing from the blaze.

Around 12:35 p.m., officials said that the fires were 90 percent contained. No one was injured or displaced and there were no reports of property damage.

The fires were found in separate areas, including near the Jerry Garcia Amphitheatre, near John F. Shelley Drive and Mansell Street, near Harvard and Burrows streets and near Cambridge and Bacon streets, according to police Officer Robert Rueca.

Their cause is under investigation.

Rueca said investigators do not have any evidence at this time that the fires were deliberately set but are asking any witnesses who were in the area around the time they started to call police.
