Grateful Dead Gets a Beer

Dogfish Head working on 'American Beauty'

The Grateful Dead has always been associated with inebriation, and now the legendary group is getting its own beer.

Maryland-based Dogfish Head Craft Brewery is putting the finishing touches on American Beauty, a brew created in collaboration with surviving Grateful Dead members and fans. The opinions of the latter were solicited in December via a YouTube video and are still being considered.

The release of the beer, said to be a strong pale ale, is more than few months away. Dogfish and the band hope to invite the fan who suggests the winning final ingredient to Delaware some time in the spring to sample the first test batch. The finished product is expected to be distributed nationally in October.
