He Almost Made it Across the Street

55-year-old killed while crossing street in San Jose

A 55-year-old San Jose man died after he was hit by a car as he crossed a San Jose thoroughfare Tuesday night.

The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office identified the man as Ronald Ceglio.

Ceglio was crossing South Bascom Avenue at Pamlar Avenue when he was hit at about 9:50 p.m.

He was walking east and had successfully crossed the southbound lanes when he was struck by a northbound driver, police spokesman Officer Jose Garcia said.

The driver, a 23-year-old man, pulled over immediately afterward, Garcia said.

Ceglio was taken to a hospital where he later died. Garcia said Ceglio lived in San Jose but may have been a transient.

There is no indication the driver was under the influence of alcohol, and police are still investigating who was at fault, Garcia said.
