Hercules Police Arrest Man Responsible for Series of Home Burglaries in Promenade Neighborhood

Hercules police officers nabbed the man who they say is responsible for a string of home burglaries in the Promenade neighborhood.

Matthew Gaudagne, 21, was on Friday arrested and charged with seven counts of first degree burglary. Police say they caught Gaudagne on camera stealing property from a resident’s garage and then putting the items in the trunk of his Audi.

Police had been on the lookout for suspects since receiving a surge in the number of reports about garage burglaries. Between Oct. 15 and Oct. 30., residents of the Promenade neighborhood – which includes Promenade and Earnest streets as well as Taraya Way -- reported that items were missing out of their garages.

Police say many of the garages may have been unlocked. In total, the suspect is believed to have stolen sleeping bags, camera equipment, golf clubs and bikes late in the late evening or early morning.

The suspect was identified from the video after a detective recognized him from a previous encounter. His bail was set at $350,000.
