Hooters, the well-known restaurant chain that serves up sex appeal along with beer and hot wings, wants to open up a location in the Sonoma County city, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

As many as 45 "Hooters Girls" -- women in "scanty white tops and orange shorts" -- would be hired at the restaurant, with another 20 to 25 "gender-neutral" positions in the kitchen and elsewhere also coming to the city if the Bay Area's sixth Hooters location is approved, according to the newspaper.

Rohnert Park has in the past denied permits to businesses that threaten its image as "The Friendly City," according to the newspaper, but support for Hooters is in place on the city council, where at least one member proudly takes his children to eat at "the family restaurant" with scantily-clad waitresses.

"I've taken my kids to Hooters many times," City Councilman Joe Callinan said, according to the newspaper.

The restaurant chain has in the past been accused of gender bias as well as tackiness. But Hooters is "pretty tame... PG rated," according to the businessman who would operate the location.

"It's pretty much the all-American girl next door, that's pretty much what we're trying to align with," said John Trani, general partner of RP Wings LLP, which also operates locations in San Francisco, Dublin, Fremont, Campbell and San Bruno.
