South Bay hospital receives million's in donations from one donor

One of the wealthiest families in the Silicon Valley is lending its' support to one South Bay hospital.

The Sobrato family is donating $5 million through its foundation, to bring in much needed high-tech medical equipment to the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, which is currently constructing a new building facility.

This is the largest private donation to a public hospital west of the Mississippi River.

The hospital is honoring their efforts by naming the building the John A. and Susan Sobrato Pavilion.

The Sobrato family will also match donations totalling up to 5 million dollars by the end of 2013.

Once construction is completed, the new medical wing will house 168 beds for an adult intensive and acute care units.

The Sobrato's made their mark in the Silicon Valley through its' San Jose based real estate development company.  They currently support 144 organizations through their foundation.
