An atmospheric river blasting the Bay Area has sparked a host of problems across the region, including flooding on Highway 101 in Gilroy.
Southbound lanes on the highway were shut down for several hours Friday morning, with traffic diverted on to Tenth Street/Eastbound Highway 152. Traffic along the highway continued to be slow moving even after lanes reopened in the afternoon.
During the closure of southbound Highway 101, thousands of drivers were sprawled out around Gilroy trying to find other way around the problem, but could not because every road to get around the closure was flooded at one point.

Meanwhile, there is another long road to recovery for residents who live near the Highways 101 and 25 interchange just south of Gilroy. A family's home flooded in the area for the second time this year.
"We didn't really get much because we didn't think it was going to come that quickly," Gilroy resident Miguel Silva said.
Silva said his family has been staying at another place in town and the house was almost ready to move back into after the January storms.
"We're not quite sure what we're going to do because everything we had is destroyed," Silva said.
