Power was restored to hundreds in Lafayette Monday afternoon after PG&E crews finished repairing a line crossing Highway 24 that had been knocked down by a crane accident earlier in the day.
The California Highway Patrol was asking motorists to avoid Highway 24 in the Lafayette area Monday afternoon during the repairs. Intermittent freeway closures were needed after the overhead lines were knocked down about 5:30 a.m. by a crane working on BART tracks in Lafayette.
The downed lines also forced the closure of westbound 24 for about an hour early Monday morning.
The crane accident knocked out power to the area, with 725 customers initially affected. As of 9:45 a.m., 114 customers were still without power in Lafayette, but by 4 p.m., power was restored to all customers.
During the Labor Day holiday weekend, BART's Measure RR-funded track work is underway and buses instead of BART trains are providing service between Walnut Creek and Orinda.
BART trains are expected to resume normal service and schedules on Tuesday morning, officials said.
