Injured Toddler's Family Reportedly Attack Shooting Suspect

Suspect accidentally runs into family, gets beat up.

One of the men allegedly involved in a West Oakland shooting that sent a 1-year-old boy to the hospital made a big mistake when he showed up at Children's Hospital Oakland last week.

The Chronicle's Matier & Ross report the man was apparently at the hospital visiting another child, when the family of Hiram Lawrence spotted him in the lobby.

Someone reportedly yelled, "That's the mother that was driving the car."

Police say then Hiram's family and friends attacked the man.

Officers arrived at the scene and arrested the man for charges not related to the shooting. They say he is a "person of interest" in the firefight at Seventh and Willow streets, but they have not charged him.

None of the family members that allegedly beat the man up were arrested.

The man's name has not been released because the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
