An inmate died Sunday night in a cell in the Santa Clara County main jail in San Jose, sheriff's officials said.
The 23-year-old man was found unresponsive at 8:06 p.m. in his cell at the jail at 150 W. Hedding St.
Deputies and jail medical staff attempted to save the man's life but he was pronounced dead at 8:21 p.m. by San Jose Fire Department paramedics.
The man may have committed suicide, officials said. He was booked into the jail on Sept. 16, for several alleged assault offenses.
The name of the man isn't being released until his family is notified.
