Police are searching for a man they say broke into a home in Santa Rosa and attacked a 12-year-old girl in her sleep.
Officers responded to a home in the 800 block of Aston Avenue at about 1:35 a.m., where a man had reportedly cut through a window screen and went into a girl's bedroom and molested her, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department.
Police said the window of the room the child was in was unlocked an open.
The attacker took off through the window when the girl woke up and yelled for help.
He was last seen running into the South Park neighborhood and is described as having dark skin around 40 years old, 5 feet 5 inches tall with a "chunky" build and wearing dark clothing, according to police.
A canvass of the neighborhood resulted in at least one witness who said they saw a suspicious man in the area several hours before the break in with a similar description.
Investigators are also reviewing filed of registered sex offenders.
